Delaware State senior Alonzo Sims Jr. was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, according to a May 6 announcement from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The recognition highlights Sims Jr.’s performance at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational, where he won gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.85 seconds. This result marks the best time in the conference this season.

Howard University sophomore Tarike Lavine was also recognized as Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. In addition to Sims Jr., Delaware State’s Ja’Mari Manson finished second in the high jump at the same meet, clearing a height of 2.06 meters.

These weekly honors reflect strong performances from athletes across member schools and underscore ongoing competition within collegiate track and field events.

As athletes continue their outdoor season, these achievements set benchmarks for upcoming meets and provide momentum for those aiming to qualify for championship events.
