Delaware Department of Transportation announces closure of Old Orchard Road for utility work

The Delaware Department of Transportation announced on March 25 the closure of Old Orchard Road between New Road and Savannah Road in Sussex County. The closure will begin Monday, March 30 and is expected to last through Friday, April 3, weather permitting.

According to the department, the road will be closed to allow for water line installation and drainage work. Motorists traveling north on Old Orchard Road are advised to turn west on New Road, then south on Nassua Road, continue south on Route 1, east on Savannah Road, and then north back onto Old Orchard Road. For those traveling southbound, the detour involves turning west on Savannah Road, north on Route 1, north again on Nassua Road, east on New Road, and then south back onto Old Orchard Road.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during this period and should expect minor delays in the surrounding area.
