Delaware Department of Transportation announces new lane closure hours at SR 1 and SR 16

The Delaware Department of Transportation announced on May 1 that there will be new lane closure hours at SR 1 and SR 16 in Sussex County. Motorists traveling on SR 1 can expect nighttime lane closures from Monday through Thursday between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., and additional nighttime closures on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

For those using SR 16, daytime lane closures are scheduled from Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Nighttime lane closures on SR 16 are permitted Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.

According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, “These lane closure hours will continue through project completion. Motorists are now driving in the final configuration. The Contractor continues to work on SR 16 and the ramps. The project is anticipated to be complete in Summer 2026.”
