The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has announced upcoming traffic disruptions in New Castle County due to construction work at the I-95/Rt 896 interchange. These include overnight lane closures and rolling roadblocks on southbound I-95 for concrete barrier work and a traffic shift on Tuesday, as well as similar activities on Thursday. Additionally, there will be an overnight lane closure on northbound I-95 for concrete barrier work on Thursday.

On Wednesday, motorists can expect an overnight lane closure and rolling roadblocks on southbound Rt 896 to remove the contraflow traffic pattern. There will also be a daytime closure of the right turn lane from eastbound Welsh Tract Road onto southbound Rt 896 from Monday through Friday.

Specific impacts include a daytime shoulder closure on southbound I-95 from the Rt 896 interchange to the toll plaza between 7 AM and 7 PM on Tuesday, December 2nd. That evening, there will be an overnight multi-lane closure from the Welcome Center to the toll plaza with rolling roadblocks between 11 PM and 5 AM. Cash lanes will close from 8 PM to 11 PM, followed by EZPass lanes from 11 PM to 7 AM.

On Thursday, December 4th, another overnight multi-lane closure is scheduled for southbound I-95 from the Welcome Center to the I-95 interchange between 9 PM and 6 AM. The same night will see an overnight lane closure northbound from the toll plaza to the Rt 896 interchange between 6 PM and 6 AM.

From Monday, December 1st through Friday, December 5th, there will be a daytime right turn lane closure affecting eastbound Welsh Tract Road onto southbound Rt 896 between 8 AM and 4 PM. On Wednesday night, December 3rd, an overnight lane closure is planned for southbound Rt 896 between Welsh Tract Road and the I-95 interchange with rolling roadblocks scheduled from 11 PM to 5 AM. During this time, contra-flow traffic patterns will be removed.

There are no expected impacts on Route 72 during this period.
