Governor John Carney has announced the termination of the statewide indoor mask mandate, effective Friday, February 11. This decision was revealed on Monday and marks a significant change in state health policy.
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Delaware has expressed support for this announcement. They believe it removes business owners and their employees from the difficult position of enforcing state health mandates.
In his press statement, Governor Carney said he had “signed a revision to the State of Emergency order, lifting Delaware’s universal indoor mask mandate effective at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11.” He noted that “we’re in a much better place than we were several weeks ago in the middle of the Omicron surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.”
Previously, Delawareans were required to wear masks in all indoor public settings such as convenience stores, grocery stores, gyms, restaurants, bars, hair salons, malls, and casinos. This rule applied to everyone regardless of vaccination status.
