Governor Carney of Delaware has announced that most COVID-related restrictions on small businesses will be lifted following updated guidance from the CDC. This change, effective from May 21, includes the removal of social distancing requirements, capacity restrictions, and mask mandates for both indoor and outdoor settings.
However, mask-wearing remains mandatory in specific situations such as public transit, planes, schools, health care facilities, and congregate settings like prisons and homeless shelters. State-owned buildings and facilities also require masks.
In financial news, the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council (DEFAC) revealed an updated budget forecast with a $1 billion surplus due to federal relief funds and higher-than-expected tax receipts. Consequently, Delaware’s budget limit for the next fiscal year has increased by $429.3 million to a total of $5.9 billion. Despite this positive outlook, DEFAC Chair Michael Houghton advised caution: “We need to continue to be cautious,” he said. “Some of these changes continue to be a function of extraordinary times…”
Additionally, the Delaware Department of Labor has announced that Unemployment Benefit recipients must look for work starting June 12 to continue receiving benefits. Secretary of Labor Karryl Hubbard stated: “Thousands of jobs are currently available… JobLink is a key tool for connecting potential employees to employers.” This requirement aligns with pre-pandemic guidelines.
