The University of Delaware men’s basketball program announced on Apr. 27 that DeShawn Harris-Smith will join the team as a transfer for the 2026-27 season. Head coach Martin Ingelsby said Harris-Smith is transferring from Georgetown, where he played last season.
Harris-Smith brings experience to the Fightin’ Blue Hens, having appeared in 75 games with 38 starts over his college career. He averages 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, shooting nearly 39 percent from the field.
“We are thrilled to welcome DeShawn to our Delaware basketball family,” Ingelsby said. “Being able to bring in a three level scorer who has done it at the highest levels will be a huge addition to our team. Welcome to Newark, DeShawn!”
Last year at Georgetown, Harris-Smith played in six games and averaged over five points and two rebounds per contest while making 60 percent of his shots from the floor. Before his time at Georgetown, he spent two seasons at Maryland, where he earned recognition as a freshman by being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and starting in his debut game.
Harris-Smith attended St. Paul VI High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. He was selected for national honors including Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and Naismith High School All-American, among others. He also participated in USA Basketball’s U19 Men’s National Team Training Camp and was ranked as a four-star recruit coming out of high school.
