The University of Delaware rowing team placed in the top three in three out of four finals races at the Worcester Women’s Invite, held on Lake Quinsigamond and hosted by Holy Cross, according to an April 25 announcement.

This event marks a significant moment for the Fightin’ Blue Hens as they approach their first-ever Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships. The team’s strong performance is seen as momentum heading into postseason competition.

In the Varsity Eight final, Delaware secured second place with a time of 6:55.8, improving from their heat round result. The Second Varsity Eight also finished second in both their heat and final rounds, clocking 7:04.2 in the finals. The Varsity Four placed third with a time of 8:00.1, while the Second Varsity Four improved their time to finish fourth in the finals.

Freshman Daniella Sexton said, “I think this weekend was a fantastic opportunity to put it all out there one last time before our conference championships in just a few short weeks. It’s really powerful to see us get sharper mentally and physically before conferences, and showcase all that we’ve been doing since August. I think our team is as close as ever and we really have each other’s backs no matter what, and that’s a value that will really help us in the coming weeks, and at MAC [Championships].”

Sophomore Milly Murphy added, “I think that the team has great momentum heading into the championship. We have been building the whole season and we are very excited to put it all out there!”

The next competition for Delaware will be its debut appearance at the MAC Championships on May 16 at Ford Lake in Ypsilanti.
