The University of Delaware rowing team won three races at the Cornell Invite against Cornell and Bucknell on April 18.

The team secured victories in both rounds of the Varsity 4+ and in the first round of the Second Varsity 8+. Delaware became the first Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) team this season to defeat an Ivy League boat with their second-round win over Cornell in the Varsity 4+.

Senior coxswain Amina Mai said, “This weekend was a great opportunity to show what we had to bring to the table. We stayed gritty and adaptable between the 2 races and really put our all into getting our bow ball ahead. I’m really proud of the work we put in.”

In other results, Delaware’s Varsity 8+ finished just three seconds behind their opponents in both races. The Second Varsity 8+ won its first race against Bucknell by a margin of thirteen seconds but fell short against Cornell in round two. In the Varsity 4+, Delaware defeated Bucknell by forty-one seconds before beating Cornell with a time of seven minutes, forty-one point thirty-five seconds. The Second Varsity 4+ faced Cornell twice, finishing eight seconds behind in round one and closing that gap to just one and a half seconds in round two.

Delaware will next compete at the Worcester Women’s Invite in Massachusetts on Saturday, April 25.
