The Delaware Senate has passed a bill establishing a paid family and medical leave program, which includes a payroll tax affecting small businesses and their employees. Mike O’Halloran, the state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Delaware, expressed concern following the legislative decision.

“It’s very disappointing to see the Delaware Senate press forward with a bill that will have an outsized and negative impact on small businesses and their employees,” O’Halloran stated. He emphasized that small business owners strive to support their workers, especially those with family members needing palliative care. However, he warned that the new payroll tax could impose financial burdens at an inopportune time.

For over 75 years, NFIB has represented small businesses across America, advocating on their behalf both federally and at state levels. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB continues its commitment to supporting small and independent businesses nationwide.
