Delaware Technical Community College’s men’s lacrosse team secured the 2026 Region 19 Championship title after defeating Mercer County Community College 17-2, according to an April 29 announcement.
The victory is significant for Delaware Tech as it highlights the team’s efforts and dedication throughout the season. The achievement reflects the commitment of student athletes who balance academics, work, and athletics.
Head Coach Dan Yearick said, “Every step we take towards building a team to compete in the national tournament holds real weight. A region title validates the hard work and dedication of these young men. It tells our players, the standard we hold ourselves to, produces real results.” Freshman attacker Christian Towns led with six goals while freshman attacker Ty Montgomery recorded six assists. Goalkeepers Jaden Parker and Anthony Knoepfel combined for a total of thirteen saves during the match.
Yearick added, “People don’t see everything that happens before anyone ever steps on the field. They see the final score, but they don’t see our guys showing up to practice every single day till 7 p.m., then working a night shift. They do not see the player who drove an hour to get to practice after spending the first half of the day in class. That is the reality of a community college athlete, and honestly, it makes these student athletes the best to coach.” This marks Yearick’s second Region 19 Championship in three years with Delaware Tech.
Sophomore midfielder Landon Hudson commented on team chemistry: “As a team, everyone has settled into his own role and we have grown as friends. This has built chemistry within the team which then reflects into our gameplay; allowing us to play smoother and more confident.” Hudson led scoring this season with forty-three goals entering district play—ranking third nationally—and added about teamwork: “The most exciting part [of the game] was seeing everyone step up and do their job. We were talking about this in our pre-game meeting and the ultimate goal was for everyone to win their matchup and we’ll be fine.”
Although Delaware Tech lost later in district competition against DuPage, Vice President and Campus Director Paul T. Morris Jr. congratulated players before their departure for districts while members of Terry Campus sent them off with encouragement.
