Delaware track and field competes at Larry Ellis Invitational in New Jersey

The University of Delaware track and field team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton on May 1-2.

The meet served as the final regular season event for Delaware before the upcoming Conference USA Outdoor Championships. Several athletes achieved personal bests and notable placements during the competition.

Olamide Ayeni won the women’s discus with a throw of 53.85 meters, setting a new personal record and moving to second all-time in program history. Ayeni also placed tenth in the shot put with a mark of 14.34 meters. Leah Clear finished ninth in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:25.88, which is now fifth all-time for Delaware, while Morgan Mims secured fourth place in the 400-meters at 55.84 seconds, ranking ninth all-time.

Other performances included Erin McGoey achieving a personal best of 10:57.29 in her event, placing sixth all-time for Delaware; Sophia Axelrod finishing eighth in hammer throw at 55.55 meters; Taylor Stone taking eighth place in high jump at 1.68 meters; Rachel Schmitt coming tenth in javelin throw at 40.49 meters; and Nubia Evans-Shields earning tenth place in discus with a mark of 45.70 meters.

Additional top finishes came from Kadence Dumas (800-meters), Nina Sgambelluri (5,000-meters), Emily Brown (400-hurdles), and Alexis Hardy (100-meters). The women’s relay team—Alexis Hardy, Jacquelyn Rolle, Jahzara Emeli, and Morgan Mims—placed seventh overall.

Delaware’s next competition will be at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships from May 14-16 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
