The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has issued a warning about icy road conditions expected Sunday night due to falling temperatures and wind gusts. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will drop into the teens across the state, with wind chills reaching single digits. DelDOT cautions that roads not drying during the day may become icy as rock salt loses effectiveness below 20 degrees.

DelDOT’s snowplow crews are actively clearing and salting roads, but drivers should exercise caution. “Drivers who need to be out tonight should give themselves extra time to reach their destination, reduce travel speed, and be alert for icy conditions,” advised DelDOT. Gusty winds combined with heavy snow on trees increase the risk of downed trees and wires, posing additional hazards.

Real-time road conditions can be monitored through more than 300 traffic cameras available on the DelDOT app and website. Any issues such as downed trees or wires can be reported to the Transportation Management Center by calling #77.
