The Delaware Department of Transportation announced on March 20 a series of upcoming lane and ramp closures at the I-95 and State Route 896 interchange in New Castle County. The closures are scheduled to take place between March 22 and March 26, weather permitting, as part of ongoing traffic pattern changes and maintenance work.
These closures will affect both northbound and southbound lanes, ramps, and intersections in the area. The department said the work is necessary to implement new traffic patterns and facilitate maintenance activities.
According to the announcement, overnight closure of northbound SR 896 and the northbound SR 896 on-ramp to northbound I-95 will occur on Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. There will also be daytime lane closures on northbound I-95 from the SR 896 interchange to the Service Plaza from Monday through Thursday. On Tuesday, March 24, a round-the-clock lane closure is planned for northbound I-95 starting at 9 a.m. through Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.
Additional impacts include overnight mobile lane closures and rolling roadblocks on both directions of SR 896 from Old Baltimore Pike to Welsh Tract Road between Sunday, March 22, and Wednesday, March 25. Overnight road closure of northbound SR 896 between Old Baltimore Pike and Welsh Tract Road is scheduled for Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with detours posted.
Further overnight lane closures are planned for Thursday, March 26 on both directions of SR 896 from the I-95 Interchange to Glasgow High School between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., as well as turn lane closures at the intersection of SR 896 and Old Baltimore Pike during those same hours.
