The Delaware Department of Transportation announced on March 13 a series of upcoming lane and ramp closures affecting the I-95 and Route 896 interchange in New Castle County.

These closures are scheduled to facilitate truck access, maintenance reviews, and sidewalk and curb ramp work. The department said that daytime lane closures will occur on northbound I-95 from Monday through Thursday, with a round-the-clock single lane closure planned for northbound I-95 between the toll plaza and the Route 896 interchange from 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 through 9 a.m. Thursday, March 19.

Daytime right lane closures are also scheduled at the intersection of Route 896 and Welsh Tract Road for sidewalk and curb ramp improvements from Sunday through Thursday. Specifically, on Sunday, March 15, there will be a daytime right lane closure on northbound Route 896 from I-95 to eastbound Welsh Tract Road between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. From Monday, March 16 through Thursday, March 19, additional daytime right lane closures will affect various turn lanes at the intersection of Route 896 and Welsh Tract Road between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

No impacts are expected for Route 72 during this period. Upcoming overnight roadway and ramp closures include northbound Route 896 from Old Baltimore Pike to Welsh Tract Road as well as the northbound Route 896 to I-95 northbound ramp on Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24; detours will be posted. Overnight lane closures are also planned for southbound Route 896 between Welsh Tract Road and Old Baltimore Pike on Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26.
