The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware announced on Apr. 15 the passing of Judge John T. Dorsey, who died after a battle with cancer.

Judge Dorsey joined the court in 2019 and served as Chief Judge from 2024 to 2025. His career included service in both the United States Army and as a missile officer in the United States Air Force, which he entered after attending college on the G.I. Bill. He also worked as Delaware state director for then-Senator Joseph R. Biden and was a candidate for Attorney General of Delaware in 1998.

Before his appointment to the bench, Judge Dorsey was a partner and General Counsel at Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor in Wilmington.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia, son Benjamin, daughter Christina (Ryan), and granddaughter Nora. The court extended its sympathies to his family during this difficult time.
