The Delaware Department of Transportation announced that the Lewes to Georgetown Trail will be closed for a required herbicide application for vegetation control. The closure is scheduled from 12:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. on April 16, pending weather conditions.

According to the department, only herbicides registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be used during this process. The agency said that the EPA has determined through its testing and review process that when these herbicides are applied according to label instructions, their application “poses no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife, or the environment.”

The closure is intended to ensure safe and effective vegetation management along the trail.

More information can be found in the Delaware Department of Transportation’s press release.
