The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) celebrated the grand opening of the North Millsboro Bypass with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 22, 2025. The event was attended by Governor Matt Meyer, Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay, and other local officials.
Governor Meyer highlighted the project’s importance, stating, “The North Millsboro Bypass is an investment in the safety, convenience, and economic future of Sussex County.” He emphasized that the project would ease congestion and improve safety for residents and commuters.
Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Shanté Hastings expressed enthusiasm about the new infrastructure. “As someone who lives in this community, I know firsthand that this bypass is an important first step in our plan for improving daily travel for area residents,” she said.
The $140 million project features a two-lane road connecting Route 24 near Mountaire Farms to Route 113 north of Millsboro. It includes four bridges and an overpass, notably one over Millsboro Pond. A grade-separated interchange at Route 113 and Route 20 aims to reduce congestion.
DelDOT acknowledged its partners R.E. Pierson, WRA, AECOM, and Torre Engineering for their contributions to the project. More information about DelDOT projects can be found on their Projects Portal.
