A Better Delaware, a new public policy and political advocacy group, has formed to re-make the state as a place more friendly for economic growth and job creation.

The group recently launched a website and released a video laying out its mission. Nonpartisan in its focus, a Better Delaware was formed to help give taxpayers a voice in changing the direction of the state. In the Jobs & Opportunity Index established by the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity, Delaware ranks last in the nation.

"Delaware is at a crossroads. The First State finds itself winding down the road of economic mediocrity, as the Delaware Advantage gives way to state policies that punish entrepreneurship and job creation through high taxation and overregulation," the group says on its website.

"Our state now ranks 44th among the 50 states for fiscal health. Delaware ranks 8th for the highest debt and unfunded retirement costs for public sector workers. We spend more than we take in and seem to constantly be seeking new ways to tax our people in order to make up the difference. We have the nation’s highest corporate income tax, and have the 10th highest personal income tax rate."

Ben DuPont and Chris Kenny co-chair A Better Delaware. Kenny is CEO of Kenny Family ShopRites of Delaware and founded the group. DuPont is an entrepreneur, investor and co-owner of Du Pont Country Club. He is also the son of former Gov. Pierre "Pete" du Pont.

"The fact is, Delaware's economy was growing the fastest when Delaware was lower in taxes. That's not an opinion; that's a fact," DuPont said on the group's video. "Delaware is a hidden gem."
