DELAWARE STATE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Chamber Leadership Breakfast with Collin O'Mara to be held on December 19

Businessluncheon

Delaware State Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Event Name: Thursday, December 19, 2019

Time: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM EST

Location: University & Whist Club

Address: 805 North Broom Street Wilmington, DE 19806

When Collin O'Mara was appointed as DNREC Secretary by Governor Markell in 2009, he was the youngest state cabinet official in the nation. During his tenure, O’Mara repeatedly demonstrated that economic development and environmental conservation go hand-in-hand. He catalyzed more than $2 billion in energy upgrades that created thousands of well-paying jobs in Delaware and reduced air pollution more than any other state in the nation, while reducing energy bills. He managed more than $300 million in environmental infrastructure projects (the most in Delaware history), including upgrades to wastewater and stormwater systems, brownfield remediation, expansion of state parks and wildlife areas, beach replenishment, dam, dike and impoundment repair, and flood abatement projects — all of which reduced pollution, improved resilience, and created local jobs in every corner of Delaware.

Under his leadership, DNREC’s permitting processes became more efficient, transparent, and outcome-focused, while achieving higher public health standards. He helped Governor Markell build world-class trails all over the state — from the Markell Trail in Wilmington, to the Castle Trail along the Canal, to the Gordon’s Pond Trail connecting Lewes and Rehoboth. He also sought to spur ecotourism by launching the Delaware Bayshore Initiative, an effort to establish the region as a world-class conservation and outdoor recreation destination, while also working to get all Delaware youth outdoors through his “No Child Left Inside”/ Children In Nature campaign.

Today, as President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, O’Mara leads America's largest wildlife conservation organization with 52 state and territorial affiliates (including the Delaware Nature Society), 11 Regional Offices, and nearly 6 million members. Under his leadership, the National Wildlife Federation is focused on bringing together Democrats and Republicans to grow America’s outdoor economy, restore America’s unrivalled natural resources and wildlife populations, rebuild America’s crumbling infrastructure, improve community resilience, improve management of and access to public lands, revitalize America's water bodies, and connect every child with nature (including publishing Ranger Rick® magazines).
