CALVARY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH: Pastor Letter

Lettertoeditor01

Calvary Presbyterian Church issued the following announcement on April 2

Dear people of Calvary Church: Grace to you and peace.

It is an honor to begin my time as your pastor, even if it means starting on April Fools Day!

These are unusual and scary times. We are all taking precautions: staying home, washing our hands, keeping appropriate distances. In the midst of so much we do not know, I would encourage you to focus on what we do know.

When we first moved to Delaware and I started in my previous church, they often spoke of one minister who said: “We trust an unknown future to a known God.” Another way to say this is that we may not know what the future holds, but we do know who holds the future.

In this time when we are staying home, I encourage you to take time to read Scripture and to pray and keep reaching out to each other. Hooray for telephones and email and even Zoom conferencing. We may not be able to meet together in person, but we are still the church of Jesus Christ. No virus can stop that! I am delighted to know that you have been calling each other and checking in.

I am planning to post a service for Palm Sunday via our website and on Facebook. I’ll record it and post it by Sunday morning if all goes well. And I will look for continuing ways to reach out virtually in the days to come. You all continue in my prayers.

I look forward to serving together with you. Be well.

Thank you and God bless you and may we all be a blessing in our hurting world.

Tom
