Mike O’Halloran, the state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Delaware, has expressed concerns regarding the newly passed Delaware Paid Family Leave Insurance Program. In a statement released on April 14, 2022, O’Halloran acknowledged the "thoughtful changes made to the bill" but highlighted ongoing worries about its financial implications and lack of flexibility for small businesses.
O’Halloran emphasized that small businesses are distinct not only in size but also in their operational methods. He pointed out that the program's assumption that an employee can be replaced for three months annually does not align with the realities faced by small businesses in Delaware.
The NFIB has been representing small and independent business owners across America for over 75 years. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, it continues to advocate for these businesses at both federal and state levels. More information about NFIB can be found on their website.
