Marcus Hook Elementary School issued the following announcement on May 11
1. DIET – Aim to get all the nutrients you need from a healthy, balanced diet. Be suspicious of anyone selling supplements claiming to boost your immune system. There is no solid evidence of any supplement to prevent Covid-19
2. SLEEP – Sufficient sleep helps to fight infection and inflammation. Adults need about 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Children under 16 need even more. If you are having trouble sleeping, google some tips for good sleep.
3. MODERATE EXERCISE - (You saw this one coming, right!) It is generally recommended to get about 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise a week. This can be tricky with gyms closed and stay at home orders still in place. There are many exercises you do without special equipment!
4. STRESS MANAGEMENT – High levels of stress can dampen your immune system. Everyone is feeling extra stress right now. Stay in touch with family. Stay in touch with friends. Talk about what is worrying you and how you are feeling. You are not alone. If you know someone who is on their own, contact them and ask them how they are doing and ask if they need any help.
5. PRACTICING GOOD HYGEINE – Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water. If you don’t have soap available, use a hand sanitizer. Please remember if using a hand sanitizer to cover all surfaces of your hands, including the back of your hands and in between your fingers.
6. IF YOU ARE SMOKING – QUIT!!!
