CITY OF LEWIS: Face Coverings Requires in Downtown Business District

Fmasks

City of Lewis issued the following announcement on July 3

At their special meeting on Thursday, July 2, Mayor and City Council approved an ordinance requiring that face coverings be worn in public outdoor areas in the area bound by both sides of Savannah Road, both sides of Market Street, Third Street, and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The ordinance goes into effect on Friday, July 3 at 5:00 p.m. and will remain in effect through Labor Day. The ordinance includes exceptions for persons under age 12, outdoor dining areas in accordance with Governor Carney’s State of Emergency, and when wearing a mask would present a health risk.  Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach adopted similar ordinances earlier this week. The narrow sidewalks of the downtown business district in Lewes make physical distance difficult to achieve, and the requirement to wear a mask ensures that as shoppers can safely visit the City’s downtown businesses.
