Delaware State University issued the following announcement on Oct. 23
The Delaware ACE Women’s Network has announced that two Delaware State University administrators will be among 2020 recipients of their top annual awards.
Dr. Saundra F, DeLauder, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, will be honored next month as the recipient of the 2020 DAWN Leadership Award. After arriving at Del State in 2013 as the Dean of Graduate Studies, she was later elevated to Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. In January 2020, Dr. DeLauder became the first woman to be appointed Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs in the 129-year history of the University.
She is the daughter-in-law to the late Dr. William B. DeLauder, president of Delaware State University from 1987-2003. He is the father of her husband, William B. DeLauder, Jr.
Jarso J. Saygbe, Associate Vice President of Academic Advisement, will also receive the 2020 DAWN Rising Star Award. Ms. Saygbe began her tenure at Del State in 2012 as the Director of Advisement for the then-College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. After leaving the University in 2016 to work in Liberia, she returned in 2018 as the executive director of Academic Advisement and later promoted to Associate Vice President over that area.
In addition to overseeing Academic Advisement, Mrs. Saygbe is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership.
The awards will be presented during a virtual ceremony on Nov. 12.
The DAWN Leadership Award is presented annually to a woman in higher education in Delaware who has demonstrated leadership activities and significant contributions to any aspect of her institution. In addition to her excellence in higher education, recipients are successful in demonstrating steps to success as well as serve as a role model for rising stars at colleges and universities.
The DAWN Rising Star Award is presented annually women who demonstrate a commitment to any aspect of higher education in Delaware, contributions in higher education, community service, and personal leadership, as well exhibit the promise of future leadership.

Delaware ACE Women’s Network (DAWN) is committed to the advancement of women leaders in higher education. For more than 25 years, DAWN has provided information and counsel to constituencies within the higher education community regarding policies, issues, education, and research that influence women’s equity, diversity, and advancement.
DAWN provides national leadership in advancing women to executive positions on campus and serves as a national voice for women in higher education. Staff members also work in collaboration with associations and other groups in higher education on ways to improve the status of women.
