City of Newark issued the following announcement on Dec. 30

The City of Newark Municipal Building located at 220 South Main Street will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, December 1 to reduce the risk of infection and community spread as COVID-19 cases increase in the area. The patience and cooperation from residents is appreciated as the City takes necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of its staff. Please note the upcoming changes:

  • Walk-in services will be suspended until further notice. Payments may be made online at newarkde.gov/payments or by phone by calling 302.366.7000. Residents may also call to establish a payment plan.
  • Alderman's Court will close Thursday, December 3. All appearances will be rescheduled and notices will be mailed to the parties affected by the closure.
  • City Council and other public meetings will continue to meet virtually using the GoToMeeting platform. Meeting agendas and instructions for logging on can be found here: Agendas and Minutes.
  • Newark Police Department is not included in the closure.
  • Main Street Alfresco scheduled for Wednesday, December 2 is canceled.
As a reminder, Governor Carney limited all indoor social gatherings to a maximum of 10 people. Outdoor social events may have up to 20 attendees without a City of Newark Social Gathering permit; gatherings can be increased to a maximum of 250 attendees with approval from the Delaware Division of Public Health and City of Newark Social Gathering permit. Event plans should be submitted to HSPcontact@delaware.gov and the application for a social gathering permit can be accessed here

Residents and businesses requiring assistance as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are encouraged to view several initiatives established to support Delawareans. Stay up-to-date on the State's regulations regarding coronavirus by visiting their website. View testing opportunities in the area here
