Banking on her expertise, Dr. Deborah Birx, White House coronavirus response coordinator, has been constantly speaking about facts and threats of the virus including prohibiting oneself from traveling.
But she didn't restrict herself.
According to Fox News, “the Associated Press reported that the day after Thanksgiving, Birx traveled to a vacation property off Delaware with three generations in her family from two households.”
"She cavalierly violated her own guidance," Kathleen Flynn, sister-in-law of Birx’s daughter, said.
Birx, in an interview with CBS, said “Some people may have made mistakes over the Thanksgiving time period.” Those who opted to gather during Thanksgiving according to her “should assume that you are infected."
She confirmed to AP that she traveled to her Delaware property.
AP reported that Birx said in her statement: “I did not go to Delaware for the purpose of celebrating Thanksgiving.”
Dr. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the Georgetown Center for Global Health Science and Security said Birx's action is not something that a public health authority should be executing.
"To me, this disqualifies her from any future government health position,” Rasmussen commented. “It's a terrible message for someone in public health to be sending to the American people."
