Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s (HSGAC) Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) hearing “The PGA-LIV Deal: Implications for the Future of Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Influence in the United States,” U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del), a senior member of the committee and former Ranking Member of the PSI Subcommittee, emphasized concerns about PGA players’ ability to speak freely on Saudi Arabia’s human rights record following the merger with LIV, a Saudi-sponsored golf league.

Senator Carper highlighted these concerns at the hearing:

“I’m concerned, as I’m sure you are too, that Saudi Arabia’s human rights record runs counter to the [PGA] tour’s stated values of inclusion and respect…. [There is concern] that the proposed framework agreement will provide the Saudi Arabian government with the opportunity to hide its human rights record behind the tours’ values.”
